National Consumer Panel

National Consumer Panel is a panel of American residents who have voluntarily signed up to participate in consumer market research. The panel differs a little compared to standard market research organizations, in that you use an in-home hand held scanner device to monitor all your purchases, rather than just completing surveys or polls. It works like this: after you sign up to participate, you’ll receive a hand held scanner. This scanner is then used by you, or other members in your household to scan the barcodes of the products that you have purchased. Then, once a week you submit your scanner information to the National Consumer Panel to receive your point rewards and any entries you may have earned into their Sweepstakes for cash and prizes – It’s so easy!

The information that has been gathered by your scanner is then used to assist companies in developing new products or improving on existing ones and gives manufacturers and product developers an indication of what products really sell well. All in all, your help in market research is extremely valuable – who better to find out what consumers really want, than consumers themselves? I was given the OK after each transmission so I know that they had received my transmissions. When I complained, they told me that I could leave the panel if I wished. They never admitted any problems on their part. I was unable to redeem any of my points. After returning my scanner I never heard from them again. I do not recommend getting involved with them.
